Hey all! Happy Monday! How was your weekend? Hope it was nice and relaxing. Ours was a little sad. My mom was visiting here to get us through the last month of deployment and yesterday we took her to the airport. We all cried in the car on the way home. It was so wonderful to have her here!
Mom and I share a very close bond. Since teenage years, she has been my best friend. Together we always laugh to tears and just have the best time. She gets me, and I get her. I’m very grateful for this relationship.
This deployment hit me hard with the lack of sleep (I talk more about it HERE). So mom came to the rescue and miraculously everyone was better within a week. She surrounded us with love and care, cooked up a storm and is undoubtedly responsible for Maria’s rounder face and the cutest little double chin 🙂
These “pirogi” (traditional European pastry filled with either ground beef or mashed potato mixed with sauteed onion) are the BEST.
There is no way you cans top at one. Maria did not like them at all 🙂
We had so many fun adventures while mom was here.
There was a little trip to Mount Lemmon. We surprised ourselves with managing a hike and then enjoyed lunch at the Rose Canyon Lake.
And of course Sedona…
Can’t wait to tell you more about that trip soon!
Also, mom’s birthday fell right in the middle of her visit!
We celebrated by going to our favorite local sushi spot Sushi Garden.
I felt very fortunate that we got to spend it together, enjoy some yummy food and good laughs.
In the evening, we had another mini celebration at home with a pumpkin pie (I was very grateful for mom’s choice) and candles.
And then it was time to take her to the airport. I hate saying good-byes, or like we call them “see-you-laters”. The little one gave all the hugs and kisses to her grandma. Then she wrapped her little arms around her grandma’s neck and said “go mom, I’m flying with grandma” 🙂
After dropping mom at the airport, Maria and I both looked at each other and said “no home”. The thought of returning to an empty house was unbearable. Instead we decided on Target.
Browsing through stands of Halloween decorations had the right healing. We brought home an orange Boo pillow from the dollar rack and I snatched a cute grey sweater with tiny black bats.
Retail therapy at its best 🙂
This morning we are back to the grind. I’ll be back later to tell you about my newest project and share a new recipe. Remember to sigh up for my bi-weekly email and never miss a post!
Have a lovely morning.
